Homeowners in England could receive up to 100% of the cost of home energy improvements, according to new government plans.

It has been indicated that new ‘Green Homes Grant’ announced by the government at the beginning of the month will provide low income households grants of up to £10,000 towards environmentally friendly home improvements including loft, wall and floor insulation. Higher income households will also have access to funding, reportedly up to two thirds of the cost of the measures up to a maximum of £5000 per household.

This is great news for residents who have previously struggled to meet the costs of insulating their homes. Insulation could save a household hundreds of pounds per year on heating, as well reducing carbon emissions.

In particular, the high initial costs of installing solid wall insulation have prevented many Nottinghamshire residents from accessing the most effective energy saving measures. Nottingham Energy Partnership are hopeful that the new scheme will put solid wall insulation within the reach of many more households in the coming months.

Whilst few details of the scheme are available at this time, it is hoped that full information will be available in plenty of time for households to apply for vouchers from September.
