Homeowners in England could receive up to 100% of the cost of home energy improvements, according to new government plans.

It has been indicated that new ‘Green Homes Grant’ announced by the government at the beginning of the month will provide low income households grants of up to £10,000 towards environmentally friendly home improvements including loft, wall and floor insulation. Higher income households will also have access to funding, reportedly up to two thirds of the cost of the measures up to a maximum of £5000 per household.

This is great news for residents who have previously struggled to meet the costs of insulating their homes. Insulation could save a household hundreds of pounds per year on heating, as well reducing carbon emissions.

In particular, the high initial costs of installing solid wall insulation have prevented many Nottinghamshire residents from accessing the most effective energy saving measures. Nottingham Energy Partnership are hopeful that the new scheme will put solid wall insulation within the reach of many more households in the coming months.

Whilst few details of the scheme are available at this time, it is hoped that full information will be available in plenty of time for households to apply for vouchers from September. We are currently registering interest to ensure that Nottinghamshire residents can benefit from the vouchers as soon as possible.

As the government scheme is likely to attract many thousands of applicants, we also recommend getting a survey prior to applications opening in September.

Our Home Improvement team can advise on a wide range of services, from insulation to heating systems. The survey we provide will allow you to obtain the quotes required to apply for the Green Homes Grant. We will also identify any issues which could delay your application, such as the need for planning permission.

Nottingham Energy Partnership are the only registered Home Improvement Agency in Nottinghamshire. This means that we are recognised as a trusted organisation and have formed relationships with high quality local tradespeople to make sure that you receive the best possible service. As we are a not for profit organisation, you can rest assured that the quotes we provide represent value for money.
