Press Release 13/12/2018
Nottinghamshire Switch Save and Smile (NSSS) is taking the hassle and confusion out of switching your energy supplier. Returning for a second year, climate change charity, Nottingham Energy Partnership (NEP), in partnership with iChoosr, encourage Nottinghamshire households to sign up and use people power to secure a cheaper energy deal.
This is part of a nationwide Collective Switching scheme, bringing together thousands of people from across the country looking for a better energy price – last year over 35,000 people registered, and achieved a typical dual fuel saving of £224; the largest saving was £481.
Collective switching tariffs are negotiated through an auction, and offer a unique, discounted energy tariff – these deals are not available on the ‘high street’.
This year the Queen’s award winning charity welcomes support from Rushcliffe Borough Council and Broxtowe Borough Council; both of which are keen to promote the campaign to their residents, especially those that have not switched for some time and are likely to be paying more than they need to for their gas and electricity. Residents who sign up for the scheme can consider the offer before deciding whether or not to switch suppliers.
To register visit www.nottenergy.com/collective-switching or call 0115 784 6696 – make sure you have your energy provider, tariff name and yearly energy data to hand. You can find this information on a recent annual statement.
Miranda Cumberbatch, NEP Affordable Warmth Development Manager urges people to register “Seven out of ten UK households are still overpaying for their Energy – this is an easy way for people to switch from those expensive deals, i.e. standard tariffs and variable deals. The more people that register the cheaper the final deal will be. This campaign puts the onus on the energy companies, to win a pool of new customers, they have to outbid each other by offering the lowest price.”
If you have been thinking about switching, but have not had the confidence, or the time, this simple, people powered initiative could be for you. What have you got to lose? There is no obligation to switch.

Important dates
- Register by Tuesday 12th February 2019
- Personal offers sent out Monday 25th February 2019
- Accept offers by Tuesday 26th March 2019
The auction will be facilitated by iChooser, independant experts in group buying.
The amount of money that can be saved will vary depending on individual factors such as the current tariff, payment method, consumption and the winning bid. There is no guarantee that an offer will be the cheapest but the model aims to ensure most participants are offered lower annual energy bills than they are on currently paying or are available at the time of the offer.
The same email address can be used to register up to five households – allowing people to do it on behalf of family and friends who do not have internet access.
