What are Air Source Heat Pumps and how do they work?
Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) are a renewable heating technology. They look like an air conditioning unit and are are kept outdoors. Air Source Heat Pumps work by extracting warmth from the outside air (even when it's freezing) to heat your home and provide hot water.
They work by extracting heat which is transformed into water that circulates through radiators or underfloor heating. They can also heat water stored in a hot water cylinder. Air source heat pumps use electricity to do this, but the amount of heat produced is 3 to 4 times the amount that is used which is much better for the environment!
Installation
The majority of Air Source Heat Pumps can take up to a week to install. This is rough guideline the requirements of the installation will vary from one property to another. For example, you might find that you need to radiators and pipe work installed if the existing is not compatible.
