Background
Mrs H is a 75-year-old homeowner who has lived in her end-terrace property for 44 years. After she received a HUG2 leaflet through the door, Mrs H contacted Nottingham Energy Partnership (NEP) to enquire about the measures and grants available. She informed us that she was off-gas (without central heating) and needed help with her heating.
Mrs H found that her home suffered with cold spots and that the upstairs was colder than the downstairs, telling us “this has been the case for 30 years.”
Mrs H has always used electric heating, she explained that her bills were “about right”, all considering that she has always paid over the normal amount, so that she does not have to worry about a freezing home on colder days.
NEP identified that she would benefit from an air source heat pump, explained the scheme and the support available in a clear and comprehensive way and quickly processed her application. In April 2024, the ASHP was installed, supporting Mrs H with a brand new, low carbon heating source. Additionally, the team at NEP identified that Mrs H would benefit from National Grid’s Priority Services Register (PSR), which offers priority support to vulnerable households in the event of a power cut.
How does Mrs H find the ASHP?
Mrs H told us that, “The ASHP is a bit noisy, but that was to be expected and it is more like a hum in the background.”
She continued, “it is a bit awkward to assess whether the house is warmer as we’re currently having warm weather. It will be easier to work out in the wintertime.”
The grant-funded ASHP installation saved Mrs H £15,590 and is set to save an average annual saving of £410 each year on her energy bills.
How did you find the install process?
Mrs H was particularly pleased with the installers, saying “At first I was very apprehensive as I haven’t had any one in the house before to carry out improvements, but the guys were absolutely brilliant.”
