External Wall Insulation & Solar Panels

Our home feels so much warmer and it looks like a new build! We didn’t think the offer was real originally, as you don’t get anything for free these days.

Name: Mr & Mrs J

Area: East Leake, Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire

Measures: Free External Wall Insulation & Solar Panels

Savings: £21,905

Background

Living in their home for almost 40 years, Mr & Mrs J’s steel-framed property was notorious for letting the cold in.

With energy costs skyrocketing it was becoming increasingly expensive to heat their home during the Winter. Concerned about rising bills, they felt that it was time to make a change.

The grant and the savings made

Mrs & Mrs J received free EWI and Solar PV, meaning that they saved £21,000 on installation costs and could start saving £905 a year on their energy bills.

Mr J told us: “Everybody’s concerned about the cost of energy. It just keeps going up and you always need the heating on. The improvements were outlined and everything was explained very well. It was a genuine service that could help.”

Why did Mr & Mrs J sign up?

“We received a Green Grants letter but didn’t think it was real. You don’t normally get anything for free!” “Thrift’s Site Foreman, Mark, popped by to tell us more about the project. He solidified that it was real and we decided to go ahead with it.”

“There is a definite difference. When the heating goes off, I find that the house stays warmer for longer.”

What did Mr & Mrs J think of the process?

Mr J was very pleased with the service, telling us that he has “no complaints at all.” Highlighting how the team took into consideration his work pattern, he told us: “They were always tough on that. I work nights so the noise was kept to a minimum during the day. Everything was always cleaned up so there was never a mess to come home to.

Do they feel like they have a better handle on their energy bills?

“Last winter, I had my heating on a lot more. Our bills were quite high.”

After the improvements, Mr & Mrs J have noticed a difference both in savings and in the day-to-day experience of living in their home.

They told us: “There is a definite difference. When the heating goes off, the house stays warmer for longer. Before, the heating would go off and it would immediately go cold.

“Without a shadow of a doubt. I would recommend the service to anyone that I speak to.”

Mr J couldn’t fault the scheme, he mentioned that it was a shame some people couldn’t receive the grant as he found the impacts on his home to be so worthwhile.

Would you recommend the scheme to others?
