What is a Home Upgrade Grant (HUG)?
The Government’s Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) funds free energy saving upgrades and low carbon heating for low-income households living in off-gas grid homes. The funding pays for home improvements, such as upgrades to heating systems and insulation.
Nottingham Energy Partnership are working with local authorities and contractors to deliver Home Upgrade Grants to homes in Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City. The aim is to raise the energy efficiency of hard to heat homes, delivering a package of fully funded energy saving upgrades covering free home insulation and/or free low carbon heating measures.
What energy saving upgrades could I receive?
The energy saving upgrades available (often referred to as ‘measures’) range from Loft Insulation, Solid Wall Insulation, External Wall Insulation, Solar PV Panels and Air Source Heat Pumps.
These measures make your home more comfortable and cheaper to heat, helping to lower your carbon emissions whilst reducing your heating bills in the long term.
-
Installing these measures begins as part of a ‘fabric first’ approach, prioritising the home insulation improvements such as Loft Insulation and Wall Insulation which make homes more energy efficient and able to retain heat for longer.
-
It depends on the availability of funding in your area and what works best with your home.
After the ‘fabric first’ stage, i.e. homes that are already insulated or have been recently improved, you may be considered for low carbon heating measures, like Solar PV Panels and Air Source Heat Pumps, reducing household carbon emissions and heating costs.
-
HUG2 aims to make homes across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire fit for the future with tailored energy-saving upgrades, varying in availability across the local authorities. Please note that only households who meet the scheme criteria will be eligible for a grant and the energy saving upgrades offered depend on availability.
-
If the funding is approved, you may need to have work carried out at your property prior to the energy saving measure being installed. These include, but are not limited to, the installation of ventilation, relocating services & extending the roof line of your home.
