Jack and Elisha’s Video Story

Background

Jack and Elisha are new homeowners, having bought their mid-terrace property in Netherfield in April 2021.

Being relatively young they are on a budget but are still keen to make their house a home. They received a Green Grants letter with the offer of free External Wall Insulation and took no time to sign up. Like everyone, they were keen to lower their energy bills following April’s price rise.

Improvement received and savings made

Jack and Elisha received free External Wall Insulation, meaning that they saved £16,000 on installation costs and could start saving £382 a year on their bills. A lot of heat escapes through uninsulated solid walls, adding EWI is one of the most effective ways to keep heat inside and keep dampness and draughts at bay.

Why did Jack & Elisha sign up?

“It was a no brainer, the insulation is meant to lower our bills, I work from home full time so I probably do have the heating on more purely because I’m in more - any help towards this is very welcome!”

“We got used to having wet mouldy walls all year round - this is not the case anymore.”

What did Jack & Elisha think of the process?

The couple were on holiday during the bulk of the install so they didn’t experience much disruption at all. The little time they did see the contractor they said “they were polite and didn’t mind our questions so didn’t experience any disruption.

Has the External Wall Insulation had any effect on your general wellbeing?

“Well the house looks great which makes us feel good! Before the house was like an ice box, and we had mould growing on the walls. For the EWI to be fitted the contractor had to sort the damp out first which was great for us, we didn’t need to pay for this extra improvement.”

Do you feel like they have a better handle on their energy bills?

“Our bills are £80 a month for gas and electricity, it doesn’t sound too bad, but we are worried about the next increase. In winter we will really start to understand how valuable the insulation is.”
